To our musicians, you brought the lakeshore to life, providing both lively and peaceful moments under the trees to enjoy.

Our food vendors kept everyone fueled all weekend long with delicious food, while our kids activity vendors gave the youngest visitors a chance to create, play, and explore! To our staff and volunteers, your care and problem-solving magic helps us keep everything running smoothly. We’re endlessly grateful for your dedication.

A huge thank you to Minneapolis Parks & Recreation for trusting us to bring this new event to life at Bde Maka Ska, we couldn’t do it without your partnership. ✨ Best in Show: Aruna Rangarajan @runa_rang  Aruna Rangarajan’s mixed media paintings blew us away! Aruna’s work is both beautiful and a powerful reclamation of identity and strength. Drawing from her experience growing up in an Indian household, she reimagines traditional expectations through portraits of confident South Asian women, bold and unapologetically themselves. Her layered use of acrylic, patterned paper, and embroidery results in complex and textural pieces. In a time when women everywhere continue to push against constraint, her work feels especially vital, celebrating femininity, freedom, and the right to simply be.

✨Best Booth Presentation: McColl Designs @craftyourkreature  The McColls’ Kreature Assembly Lab transformed their booth into an imaginative, steampunk-inspired workshop, complete with gears, vintage props, and interactive displays. Visitors were invited to step into a world of creativity, surrounded by handcrafted wooden “Kreatures” and playful details like an old working typewriter for the Official “Kreature Registry”. Every element of the booth reflected their inventive spirit and love of storytelling.

✨ Most Engaging Artist: Bench Pressed @benchpressed
Jane & Andy Shannon brought the same warmth and wit that define their letterpress cards to their booth, greeting visitors with genuine conversation and a touch of humor. Their fun, welcoming energy drew people in and perfectly reflected the “tongue-in-cheek with a little sweet” charm of their hand-printed designs.

A huge thanks and congratulations to ALL of our artists for making this the first year of this art fair so magical!

Meet Carol Moline, the artist behind Zelba + Mary (@zelbamarystudio) a line of refined, handcrafted pieces made to be ‘loved every day and cherished for years to come’. Working with eco-friendly, pre-washed European linen and thoughtfully chosen cottons, wools, and embroidery floss, Carol brings to life huggable companions, cozy home goods, and accessories. Her work is rooted in generations of creativity, inspired by her grandmother Zelba and mother Mary. Zelba, an outspoken piano-playing knitter and crocheter, passed down her needle skills, while Mary’s constant sewing and embroidery left their own lasting influence.

“I make dolls to be loved and cherished, and using the best materials for that purpose is important,” Carol shares. That sense of care and intention shines through every stitch, creating work that is both beautiful and durable. Drawing from Scandinavian simplicity, old English coziness, and Japanese creativity, her style is sophisticated yet joyful, quiet yet confident.

Born and raised in the California Bay Area and now residing in Minneapolis, Renée (@renee.boynton.art) freehand draws with charcoal and soft pastel on paper, often depicting figurative and floral themes together within her artwork. She finds inspiration in striving to see the world through a unique kind of perspective, sharing, “When I am traveling, meandering around parks, or honestly anywhere, I am fascinated how one’s viewpoint, as well as the way light bends around objects, can both highlight and abstract the thing one is looking at. I am always looking up at skyscrapers from the sidewalk below, the underside of flowers, stage performers underneath dark shadows and bright lights where portions of their bodies almost disappear but not quite.”

She credits her dancing background and love of expressive art forms for her obsession with depicting the human form. “I have always adored drawing people expressing themselves, especially dancers and performers. Even after not making art for almost 15 years, I still come back again and again to twisting, turning, curling torsos.” Blending her charcoal figure drawings mostly by hand, she focuses on the balance between shadow and light, negative and positive space, and uses floral elements to coax her realistic depictions into what she lovingly dubs “naturally abstracted.” “When people view my work, I adore listening to them describe how they see, feel, and interpret each piece. There is no wrong answer - we all see the world through a unique lens, and that difference is beautiful.”

I am always looking up at skyscrapers from the sidewalk below, the underside of flowers, stage performers underneath dark shadows and bright lights where portions of their bodies almost disappear but not quite.”

She credits her dancing background and love of expressive art forms for her obsession with depicting the human form. “I have always adored drawing people expressing themselves, especially dancers and performers. Even after not making art for almost 15 years, I still come back again and again to twisting, turning, curling torsos.” Blending her charcoal figure drawings mostly by hand, she focuses on the balance between shadow and light, negative and positive space, and uses floral elements to coax her realistic depictions into what she lovingly dubs “naturally abstracted.” “When people view my work, I adore listening to them describe how they see, feel, and interpret each piece. There is no wrong answer - we all see the world through a unique lens, and that difference is beautiful.”

As a lifelong resident of Northeast Minneapolis, Nicholas Harper (@nicholasharperfineart) finds endless inspiration in his community and its seasons. “I think there’s something magical about being cast in the cold dark shadow of winter for so many long months each year. It breeds creative energy and imagery for me,” he shares.

Harper describes his style as magical realism, inspired by the literary genre and by authors such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez. “In distorting the human figure I hope to transcend mere representation or documentation, but open the work up to allegory and metaphor…Through my portraits I hope to imbue the notion that life is a mystical and amazing place… there is no such thing as the mundane if we pay close attention,” he explains.

With each painting, Harper strives to capture what he calls the “hauntingly beautiful” - a mysterious essence that uplifts the spirit and draws viewers closer. His work invites us to see the world with continually fresh eyes, reminding us that wonder can be found everywhere if we are willing to look. He also shares his passion for the arts with the community as owner and curator of the Rogue Buddha Gallery, a creative hub in Northeast Minneapolis since 1999.

Meet artist Omar Ghrayeb, the eye behind @OGEEVisuals. Born in Beirut and now based in Minnesota, Omar transforms everyday landscapes into striking aerial narratives that invite the viewer to see the world in new ways. His journey began with childhood curiosity and a camera, later merging with his love of flight when he discovered drone photography. “When I moved to Florida in 2018 and got my first drone, everything changed - I could finally merge flying with photography, since then, I’ve been chasing unique perspectives from above,” Omar shares.

Since then, his award-winning work has captured coastlines, cities, and the vibrant seasonal beauty of Minnesota from above. Meet Beth Hatlen Elliott (@bethelliottpottery), a Minnesota ceramicist joining us at the City of Lakes Art Fair this October! Though she once dropped her first pottery class on the very first day, Beth later rediscovered clay and found her creative home in the centuries-old technique of sgraffito. “It all clicked for me when I discovered I could combine illustration, carving (sgraffito), and pottery to create original art - I had found my metaphorical home!” she shares.

Beth’s work plays with opposites like negative and positive space, with bold patterns and imagery that flow with each pot’s form. What makes her work even more special is the tactile experience: while the interiors are glazed, the exteriors are often left unglazed and hand-sanded to a soft, eggshell finish. “I love to see a person pick up my work and feel the surface for the first time,” Beth says. “There is always that moment where they hug the piece in their hands; usually they draw it to their chest and smile at the feel of the piece.”
